Every task of conservation of the cultural heritage and, in this case, what refers to industrial heritage and its relationship with the river and the landscape, must be preceded by an interdisciplinary study and an analysis of all its elements. Subjects such as history, biology, sociology, geography, anthropology, art, landscaping, photography, gardening, painting, IT, etc., are present and shed new light on what is being worked on. The industrialists of the Ter – a river that is a key element and which works as a union between all its industries – went beyond creating purely productive spaces. There was a symbolic occupation of the territory and a singular presence and identity through the improvement of the spaces that surrounded the colonies, and their internal spaces through the gardens that were created.
This exhibition focuses on highlighting this aspect related to the landscape, where several lines of work are proposed:
– To highlight the characteristics and locations of these green spaces and their plant wealth.
– To present the process of material execution of the representation of these modified spaces. From the plant recognition tours, to the preparation of the drafts with the decision of the representation criteria, until reaching the final impression.
– To acknowledge the seriousness of the loss of these cultural assets and the need to raise awareness about their conservation and recovery.
These studies and works have been collected in a publication called “The Ter’s gardens of industrialisation”, in which there is also a plant inventory that stands out for its ecological richness.
The opening ceremony will be on Thursday, May 4 at 6:30 p.m. We will be joined by the curators of the exhibition: Manel Vicente, agronomist engineer with a master’s in landscape architecture, and Antoni Companys, PhD architect and curator; as well as Carles García, director of the Ter Museum.
