Air is what we never see and yet sustains us. It surrounds us, passes through us, gives us breath and movement. It is both absence and presence: it has no body, but it is the condition of all form. Without air there is no voice, no breath, no life. Its invisible nature only reveals itself when it comes into contact with what defines it — the movement it generates, the void it fills, the lightness it sustains. Air is the counterform of existence: the silent part that makes noise possible, the silence that accompanies every gesture, the intangible matter that shapes what is tangible. In our daily lives, we often forget that we live immersed in it, like fish in water. But air is the first and the last thing we touch: the first cry and the last sigh. Between these two moments, air is a constant and discreet companion, a space of freedom and a reminder of fragility.

The exhibition Mirades Aire: Contraforma, featuring photographs by Maria and Joan Diví Figueras (Girona) —the third in the Mirades cycle promoted by the Girona branch of the COAC—, seeks to be an exercise in looking at the invisible, an invitation to recognize the beauty of what cannot be captured. Because life, like air, only becomes visible when it moves, when it transforms us and leaves a fleeting imprint in time.

Maria Diví Figueras and Joan Diví Figueras (Girona)

Maria is a psychologist, graduated from the University of Girona, and holds a master’s degree in neuropsychology from the Hospital de Sant Pau. Fascinated by the complexity of the human mind, she understands photography as another way of seeing — a means of capturing emotions, gestures, and silences.
Joan is a photographer with more than ten years of experience in the field of documentary and commercial imagery. He completed a master’s degree in photography at the ERAM University School in Girona and develops visual projects for brands, spaces, and individuals, always with a spontaneous and curious eye, playing with light, shapes, and a constant curiosity to explore new ways of portraying life.
Since childhood, both have shared a passion for art, drawing, and photography. They began with a film camera given to them by their father and today continue exploring the image as a way to understand and connect with the world.
