On the ‘Arquivolta Girona architectural route: the heritage along the Ripollès river’, we will visit the Doctor Robert de Camprodon School and the Llaudet Colony of Sant Joan de les Abadesses.
Dr. Robert Camprodon School
The current Dr. Robert Camprodon School (an early childhood education and primary school) consists of two buildings: a more modern one where the kindergarten classrooms are located, and an older one, where the rest of the school’s program takes place. This original building, the Camprodon Public Schools (1936-1938), is the work of the Olot architect Bartomeu Agustí, author, among others, of the Serra d’Olot House (1931-1933), currently the COAC’s Garrotxa-Ripollès headquarters.
It is a building made up of a rectangular body and three wings attached perpendicularly at the back, originally with a flat roof, and which was later renovated by an extension in 1967 and a renovation of the dining room in 1975. The mural paintings “Els Quatre Continents” by the artists Josep Morell and Darius Vilàs stand out.
Llaudet Colony. Sant Joan de les Abadesses
The Llaudet industrial colony, located in Sant Joan de les Abadesses, was founded at the end of the 19th century by Tomàs Alexandre. The complex occupies an approximate surface area of 37,552m2, and was made up of the spinning mill, three blocks of flats, service buildings, managers’ buildings, the caretakers’ chalets, a church, a school, sports facilities, warehouses, etc. Currently, one of the warehouses is taken up by local companies, thanks to a first phase of rehabilitation, and work is underway on the construction of a museum and municipal equipment, based on the architect Marc Grifell Vera’s project.
