On Thursday, February 20th at 7:30 p.m., the COAC Lleida Branch will host the lecture “The Modern Adventure of Spanish Architecture 1949-1969,” presented by Antón Capitel.

THE MODERN ADVENTURE OF SPANISH ARCHITECTURE 1949-1969

The important architects who graduated in the 1940s (Cabrero, Coderch, Corrales, Fernández del Amo, Fisac, Sáenz de Oíza, Sostres, de la Sota, Vázquez Molezún, etc.) had received academic education, and in the 1940s, they practiced a moderate academicism, largely imposed by the Francoist regime. However, by around 1949, partially liberated, they were able to begin practicing Modern Architecture. This opportunity seemed so important to them that they even called it “the Good News” and identified it with rationalism. As time went on, organicism emerged, which they primarily practiced in the 1960s. This difficult, interesting, and zigzagging journey is what the author has called the “Modern Adventure.” This is the subject of the lecture and part of the book Arquitecturas Españolas en el siglo XX (Spanish Architecture in the 20th Century).
