The headquarters of Lleida organizes a visit to the church of Sant Llorenç in Lleida, led by the architects responsible for its restoration, Carles Pubill and Marta Torras.
The church of Sant Llorenç Màrtir is one of the most appreciated architectural gems of the city of Lleida, along with the ancient cathedral, known as the Seu Vella. It is the only medieval building that continues to fulfill its liturgical functions.
It is a Romanesque building from the 12th century, with Gothic naves added over the 14th and 15th centuries. The interior houses one of the most important sculptural ensembles in Catalonia, with works including the 14th-century stone altarpieces of Sant Llorenç, Santa Llúcia, Sant Pere, and Santa Úrsula.
In 2023, restoration works were completed, mainly consisting of consolidating elements with structural pathologies, reconstructing the bell tower staircase, conserving and restoring the vaults and interior walls of the church, a series of interventions on the facades, especially on the crowns, and a rainwater redirection intervention from the roofs to prevent damage to the facades.
The dismantling of the altarpiece of Santa Úrsula was also carried out, which is currently undergoing conservation-restoration. Its relocation is scheduled for the end of summer.
All these actions are significant because they leave the monument in optimal safety conditions, while also achieving a level of restoration that allows it to be enjoyed in its fullness.
To attend the visit, confirmation of attendance is required at junta.lle@coac.net or by calling 973 228921, before Wednesday, April 24th.
