Fifth and last session of the MARQ 2022/2023 cycle with the ‘Emotional Heritage’ conference, carried out by the architect Eva Prats from the Flores & Prats Arquitectes office.

Eva Prats (Barcelona, 1965)

She has been an architect from ETSA in Barcelona since 1992 and a PhD in Architecture from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (2019). During her university years, Prats worked at the studio of Miralles; Pinós and then with Enric Miralles until 1994, for a total of 9 years. In 1994, she won First Prize at the EUROPAN III International Competition, which led to the formation of her own studio.

In 1998, Prats joined Ricardo Flores to form the Flores & Prats Arquitectes studio, an office dedicated to the confrontation of academic theory and practice with the activity of projecting and building. They have worked on the reuse of old structures, as well as on neighbourhood participation in the design process of urban public spaces, and on social
housing and its ability to create community.

The work of this studio has obtained, among other recognitions, the Grand Award for the Best Work in Architecture from the Royal Academy of Arts in London for the Mills Museum (2009); the Dedalo Minosse International Award from Vicenza (2011); the Barcelona City Award Barcelona (2017) for Sala Beckett / Obrador International de Dramatúrgia; and the Ciutat de Palma award (2018) for the Casal Balaguer Cultural Centre. They have been
nominated for the Contemporary Architecture Award – Mies van der Rohe Award in 2005, 2015 and 2016.

In 2019, Eva Prats was nominated for the Women in Architecture award, awarded by the British magazines The Architectural Review and Architect's Journal.

Her work has been exhibited at the last four editions of the Venice Biennale; the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts; the London Royal Academy of Fine Arts; the Swiss Architecture Museum in Basel and the COAC, among others.
In addition to her professional practice, Eva Prats is actively involved in the academic world.

Since 2002 she has been an associate Projects professor at ETSA in Barcelona; ​​since 2015 she has been Professor of Architecture and Urban Design at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology; and between 2019 and 2021 she has been a visiting professor at ETH Zurich.

She will start off the 2022-2023 academic year as a guest professor at the Academia di Architettura di Mendrisio.
