BARQ Festival. Shortfilms in competition / Memory and experience

How do we experience architecture? What imprint does the built environment leave in our memory? This session proposes a journey through four short films that explore the influence of architecture on our experiences and our memories, while at the same time, reveals the different emotional legacies that they treasure.

1. Exterior Day (Esterno giorno) | Dir. Giulia Magno | Italy, 2022 | 8 min
Esterno Giorno is a love letter to Italian cinema. Through extracts from Antonioni’s films and following in the footsteps of Monica Vitti, the director takes us on a journey to the places where the films were shot.

2. Leisure Time – A Summer’s Day | Dir. Adam Paaske | Denmark, 2022 | 30 min
How do the Danish white middle and upper classes spend their time when they’re on holidays? An ironic look at leisure in the context of Danish holiday homes, filled with absurdity, boredom and loneliness.

3. Mensaje urgente desde el sur acerca de una invasión inminente | Dir. Facundo Rodriguez Alonso | Argentina, 2022 | 5 min
In an unclear present, the message of an enigmatic woman predicts an imminent catastrophic future. A dystopian short film about the processes of gentrification in a city that could be Buenos Aires.

4. Casa Ki-Ké | Dir. Jim Stephenson | United Kingdom, 2023 | 5 min
Casa Ki-Ké was designed by Gianni Botsford for his father, his 16,000 books, a grand piano and his paintings. A posthumous reflection as a tribute to a building, the person for whom it was designed and the connection between the two.
